There's a great package here and the details go a long way. Character designs are, for the most part, fun. Level themes are cohesive and always build directly to the big boss. In general, the platforming holds up exceptionally well. Like a lot of retro games, however, there are some issues with its controls. Aiming turrets is a chore, which provides some irritations in the last world. But with so much going right, what's a few retries?
Definitey holds up for being a remaster for a PS2 game. Fun and challenging all the way through other than the racing missions. Those were annoying. If I was rating out of 10, I'd give this a solid 8.5/10.
While the weakest link in the series, the first sly cooper outing is still fun to play today and the platforming levels really hold up compared to similar games from its time period due to the lock on jump mechanic. Level items are worth finding as they provide useful upgrades that make you instantly more powerful. Some of the non-platforming levels are not as well baked.
The age is obvious but it has held up better than expected. Fun and charming, with creative worlds and interesting bosses. The last world was a tad disappointing but I look foward to the rest of the series.
